Lovin' Me Some Mac

I have been SO enjoying my four year old lately! I love this age he's at. I love his honesty and sincerity and just his overall sweetness!

He is ALL about praying right now. I love that he is quick to remind us if we fail to say the blessing at mealtime--regardless of whether we are at home or eating out. And he'll just stop and pray sometimes during the middle of the day. We're not even talking about prayer, when it occurs to him to stop and say a prayer. (Is that a great example, or what?!)

The other night he was drawing a picture and then he stopped, looked up at me and said, "I want to pray now." And here is what he said...in his most serious voice...

"Dear God...Thank you for this night. Thank you for the children. Thank you for the mommies and daddies. Thank you for Miss Ashley. (his teacher) In Jesus' name, Amen."

When we walk into school each morning he wants to first say a prayer. (LOVE that!) Usually it sounds something like: "Dear God, please help Anna be nice to her friends today. And bring Taylor and Daddy and Sarah all home safely today. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Something else that really touched my heart...late yesterday he was sitting at the kitchen table with Sarah while she was doing homework. He said "Mommy, can I write Kendall a letter?" (this the daughter of one of my friends and his FIRST "crush"!) I got him some paper and he asked me to show him how to write the words he wanted to say. He would tell me a sentence at a time, and I would write it out clearly on a scrap piece of paper. He would then write it as best he could on his letter. This is what he wrote: "Dear Kendall, I love you. I miss you. I wish you could come see me."

He stopped at that point and said "Hmmm...what's something else I could say that is sweet?" And he said "I know! Mommy, show me how to write "Next time I see you I will bring you a flower."

I LOVE THIS BOY. How awesome would it be if he lived the rest of his life being so prayerful and so kind to others?! 

Did I mention...Every single day he says to me, "Mommy, I think you are very beautiful." :)

Be my boyfriend!

 

How about that expression on Mac's face?? ;)

The little blond sitting in front of Mac is Angeline. Mac tells us that she came up to him the other day at PRESCHOOL and said "Hey, be my boyfriend!" And Mac said his reply was "Uh...that sounds kind of gross, but okay!" Since Mac was committing himself to an exclusive relationship with this girl we barely know, we asked him to tell us about her. He said:

"She has white hair...sometimes she wears it up and sometimes down, but when she wears it up she looks most beautiful. We go to computer class together and we play together outside. We sit by each other in the classroom."

*I should also mention that after I took the photo above, Angeline looked at the image on my camera and said, "Why did she get in the picture??" (regarding the sweet little girl standing behind Mac!)

Surprise Ending

I was in the kitchen cooking dinner late yesterday afternoon when Mac started singing in the sweetest, most angelic voice. I paused and smiled as I listened to a song he was obviously making up as he was going along. And I have to say I was caught off-guard by the surprise ending. It went like this:

"I love God...

God loves me...

He is good...

And we will all DIE!!!!

 

Alrighty then.

Just Tell it Like it Is

Leave it to a three year old to cut right through all the mushy "morning goodbyes" and say exactly what's on his mind!

As Stephen was leaving for work this morning and shouting "Goodbye! Love you!" from downstairs, Mac yells,

"Have fun today, Daddy...and make lots of money!!"

He Cracks Me UP!

Mac, my youngest child, said to me tonight: "Mommy, I'm almost a big brother, aren't I?!"

Shocked and confused, I looked at him and said: "WHAT??? What makes you say that?"

And he said, smiling: "Because I'm getting taller everyday!"

The Boy Does Love Him Some Basketball

Conversation (via text message) between me and my son Taylor today:

Taylor: Mom, you've GOT to call and schedule my wisdom teeth to be pulled...they are KILLING me!!

Me: Ok Taylor, I'm going to schedule it, but don't give me grief about it conflicting with your "schedule"!

Taylor: Ok...just let me know as soon as you find out when it is.

Me: (about 30 minutes later) Taylor it is scheduled for Thursday, January 31st at 1:30.

Taylor: Ok...but I have a basketball game at 7:30 that night...do you think I'll be able to play?

My "Legacy"

My Mom celebrated her 60th birthday last August and my sister and I put together a book for her called "60 Reasons We Love Mom". We got the kids involved and in the end it turned out to be a precious gift!

Well at the end of this year I will celebrate my 40th birthday and I guess Sarah wants to get a head start on making a similar gift for me. I found a book she is working on for me about all the reasons she loves me. At first I was touched. Then I opened it and read the very first reason she could think of for loving me...

"She makes me laugh when she passes gas." I chuckled to myself. And then I was a little disappointed that was the first thought she documented! And then I flipped the page to the second reason. She had written "She showed me how to use my devotional book."

So there you have it...2 primary impressions I have made on my daughter... practicing the habit of a daily devotion time...and passing gas. I am so proud.

And I have no idea why I am sharing this with you. I guess I thought we could all use a good laugh first thing this morning! :) 

One of my favorite things

Every so often I say a prayer out loud while I am driving...what an encouragement to know that Mac is joining in! As soon as he hears me say "amen" he very softly and sweetly sings "God our Father, God our Father, once again, once again, we bow our heads and thank you, we bow our heads and thank you...Amen"

How precious is that? And today I thought quick enough to snap a picture of it!

Mac Rocks (just ask him)

Mac just brought me his Magna Doodle and said "Will you write the word 'Mac' for me? No, wait...can you write 'Mac rocks the house' for me?"

I do encourage honesty, after all

We were getting ready to leave yesterday morning when I heard Stephen say to Mac "Go get some clothes!"

Mac: "I can't find any."

Stephen: "Go to your closet and find something to wear."

Mac: "I can't find any."

Mommy: "Mac!! What do you mean you can't find any? Go back to your room and look again. Now think, WHERE does Mommy keep your clothes?"

Mac: "In the laundry room?"
